I remember growing up thinking that there were only two options for me career wise. One of them involved following my heart and pursuing my passion for the arts world. My other option was to follow my brain and pursue my interest in expanding my knowledge in the sciences world. For a great portion of my life I thought that this two worlds couldn't coexist; however, recently I came into the realization that I could follow both of this worlds. In the article, "Two Cultures and Scientific Revolution," the author, C.P. Snow, mentions how the United State's school system is too specialized which might sound good yet it prevents the individual from knowledge in other fields. Once people enter college they are usually forced into pursuit a single field which tears people's interest apart. For instance, I came into UCLA with an interest in both science and arts; however, I chose to pursue my interest in the sciences by neglecting my passion for the arts.

In the book, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, the author, Gloria E. AnzaldĂșa, talks about a third space which was created by Chicanos that are not Mexican enough to be considered Mexican or American enough to considered American. Anzaldua's book reminded me of C.P. Snow's reading since both of these readings talk about two cultures that are different but at the same time are capable of coexisting together sometimes by creating a third space that combines both of these cultures together. In the article, "Towards a Third Culture: Being in between," the author, Victoria Vesna, talks about the creation of a third space which was previously mentioned, this third space is a place were two different cultures can come together and interact with each other in a way never taught possible. In this third space the individual is capable of seeing all the similarities that bring two opposite cultures together.
